Abstraction by rrgreg Abstraction by rrgreg
Freehand pen and ink. I won Silver in a 2005 American Advertising Awards competition for this piece.

Look for patterns of 5's and 9's. For instance, there are 9 white dots in a compartment, there are 5 compartments in a cluster, and in the whole piece there are 5 total clusters with the white dots. I designed this entirely and specifically around those two numbers, and they fill every inch!

White paper, black pen, scanned onto the computer.

Thanks! I'm not exactly sure how long this one took now... I drew it about 4 years ago! Wow, I cant believe its been that long! But anyway, these tend to take about 30+ hours on average, so I would guess right around there give or take.

Yeah, these pen and inks that I sometimes draw take, on average, about 35 hours. But I enjoy it so much that I really barely notice the time go by! Thank you for your comment, I appreciate it!

why can't it just be an abstract line drawing? why does it have to look like things?

thats what i was trying to convey there....i personally like seeing images in it (it was also created as an abstract image) but if you want it to just be an abstract line drawing then thats what it can be to you....isnt art great?

It's concept is certainly original...My personal perspective: I see a few palm trees, a faery, pheonix and rising sun. These designs are wonderful, they reach a broad audience by allowing people to see different things.

Whoa...That's [link]'s awesome...I love how the background is black and the lines are white,as opposed to the other way around,it makes it easier to look at.
I have no idea what I' supposed to see,but first I see explosions and firecrackers...
And then I see flowers and bees...
And then it looks like a maze...lol.

Great job!*thumbs up*
I have no idea how you can draw like that and not go cross-eyed...Lucky ^.^ lol. :)

thats the thing i love about this one....it can be anything that you see....i'll admit that it was originally designed to be abstract dandelions, but no matter which way you flip it it makes an unlimited number of images...limited only by your imagination. Thanks for the nice comment, and i'm glad that you enjoy it. =)
